1776 Continental 1/2 Dollar "Fugio" Note

The most popular Continental note. The sun shining on a sundial. FUGIO, MIND YOUR BUSINESS. This rebus was designed in the style of the moralisms of Benjamin Franklin's "Poor Richard." Interpreted literally it means, "I, the Sun, fly, therefore mind your business." Freely interpreted it means, "Time flies, so mind your business." The back shows a linked chain containing the names of the 13 colonies and AMERICAN CONGRESS WE ARE ONE. Both devices and their mottoes were created by Franklin and some of his original sketches still exist. Excellent bright red serial number and signature of Samuel Morris.
